If Only I Had Known...

Sometimes you have to learn then hard way. Here is some wisdom I have accumulated that I want to share with you - so that we don't both make the same mistakes!

1) BACKPACKS MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE A TOURIST - Drop it off ASAP at your hostel or host's place. I learned this the hard way. I was walking around with my backpack in Madrid when my camera was stolen from my pocket. Always watch your stuff, and try as much as possible to avoid looking like you are a tourist (especially a lost tourist).

2) BE WARY OF BUDGET AIRLINES - the airports are normally not in the city, but 1-2 hours away by shuttle bus. The bus normally costs around 15 euros, and they charge extra for luggage. You may not actually be saving money at the end of the day. Consider the bus or train instead!

3) ALWAYS CHECK OPENING HOURS - Make sure before you plan to go to a city that you will be in the city at the right time for what you want to see in the city. Check opening hours of parks and museums. Also, make sure public transit runs at the times of the day that you need.
